Tennessee Baseball Jumps in RPI Rankings After Texas Victory
No. 8 seeded Tennessee (43-15) advanced into the semifinals of the Southeastern Conference baseball tournament.
The Vols defeated No. 1 seed Texas (30-12), 7-5 in 12 innings, Thursday in the SEC Tournament The quarterfinal matches will take place at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in Hoover, Alabama.
Tennessee won’t be playing on Friday. Instead, they will resume their game schedule on Saturday against the No. 4 seeded Vanderbilt Commodores (40-16). The first pitch for this intrastate clash is set for 1 p.m. EDT and can be watched on the SEC Network.
Tennessee is vying for its third SEC Tournament title in the last four years. Historically, the Vols have secured five SEC baseball championships: 1993, 1994, 1995, 2022, and 2024.

After Tennessee defeated Texas in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals, the Volunteers' résumé for RPI and strength of schedule has been refreshed.
Nationally, Tennessee holds the No. 10 spot in terms of RPI ranking and boasts the 15th toughest strength of schedule. In RPI quadrants, they have secured a record of 14-10 in quadrant one matches, gone 7-5 in quadrant two encounters, maintained an undefeated streak at 3-0 in quadrant three games, and achieved perfection with a 19-0 record against teams from quadrant four.
Tennessee concluded its regular season with a 29-9 record at home, went 9-6 when playing away from home, and maintained an undefeated streak of 3-0 in neutral site matches. On Thursday, they secured their fifth victory this year at a neutral venue.
